About/Biography
BACKGROUND
My practice is rooted in the principles of developmental psychology, psychoanalysis, and cognitive-behavioral therapy. I completed my Ph.D. at the University of Georgia and my clinical internship through Cambridge Health Alliance/ Harvard Medical School. I went on to complete a two-year post-doctoral fellowship at Boston Children's Hospital within the Developmental Medicine Center, where I developed expertise in the area of neuropsychological and psychological testing and therapy for children with neuro-developmental and mental health disorders. I have specific interest in assessing and working with children with complex cognitive and emotional profiles (e.g., Autism Spectrum Disorders, Learning Disabilities, depression/anxiety, and attachment disorders). I also have a special interest in adult testing and psychotherapy, where I work primarily from a psychodynamic model.
TREATMENT PHILOSOPHY
I take a strength-based approach to psychotherapy, in keeping with my identity as a counseling psychologist. I also bring a developmental perspective to treatment, focusing on the strengths and adaptive strategies of my patients across the life span. I place a great deal of emphasis on the importance of early attachments and the impact of intimate relationships on my patients struggles throughout all aspects of their lives. I believe that a warm, trusting therapeutic relationship in which my patients feel truly heard and understood forms the foundation of any successful treatment.
